Thrilled to receive the news today about the Social Media Marketing Awards Australasia! I made it to the Finals in 2 categories again this year!
It’s a huge honour and recognition to be among a super talented team of professionals who live & breathe social media and to be recognised by the Social Media Marketing Institute for our work & contribution! There are 6 of us in both categories as finalists and I'm the only one representing New Zealand in both categories, second time already!
Realise. Reflect. Review. Reinvent. Relaunch. Lots of R words for today as we discussed some of our lessons learned from lockdown, the past few months, how our businesses, and we adapted to the sudden changes, and what opportunities we see ahead.
I was joined by a fantastic group of local businesses to exchange experiences, and here are some of the takeaways I really enjoyed so I thought I’ll share. Some are your words, some are mine, as I try to reflect the essence of our conversations, in no particular order of importance, as it is different for each of us. What happens when there's a very painful loss. Unexpected, out of control. Very very hard to believe, and then let go. Nothing to do, no way back. The tree is cut. The crown is gone. It's done. No one believes it can ever live again. Except for one. And then, the magic happens.
Four months later, two new beautiful shoots appear in the sun... A story of growth. Through expression. I got these cute ferns from someone yesterday. I love ferns, they are so graceful, delicate & elegant. I’ve always been admiring their shapes & forms, and they would often inspire me as a photo topic when I’m out & about in nature.
As I was welcoming them home, trying to find a place for them, I was thinking about social media, business & growth. How can we spread good energy, good vibes? How can we spread like a fern, bringing people something special through our business? Limits. Triggers. Emotions. High on the agenda this week. So many things happened... Not just with my clients, but in me, too, and, on so many levels, in our global interconnected world, and in the world of social media, too. Hard to find the right words...
Realizing that something limits us from growing further, or keeps us limited, like rock walls - it’s often our beliefs and mindsets. Like what keeps us back from showing up on social media and talking about our business.... and being really ourselves. Today I’m bringing a story with the bears. I just love how they still keep showing up. I have been enjoying greeting and meeting them during the New Zealand lockdown weeks, somehow they always brought a smile to my face. I imagine you would have seen some, too?
Here is a story inspired by the bears who keep showing up. Today I am really excited! Something big is happening behind the scenes. The past few months have been big for me. I feel a lot has shifted, and then these past 7 weeks in the “lockdown” made me reflect even more.
It was really like a “lockdown with myself”. Nowhere to run, nowhere to escape, just let a lot of things go and decide to face some really uncomfortable stuff and look into myself... When I left for Social Media Marketing World to attend the industry's most prominent, and probably one of the last conferences of this scale for this year, I intuitively felt that it will be a significantly different experience to the ones I attended before. Why? Because it coincided with a time when I was beginning to shift focus. It started some months ago. I decided to pause, and look at things that really make my heart tick, to look at things that really matter. I decided to set off on a new journey, and traveling to San Diego was part of it. I went there to ask big questions, and find even bigger answers. And then, the world entered a new phase. The timing couldn't have been better, ever! Never a more exciting and empowering moment to dive deep! The unprecedented global situation has prompted others, too, to ask big questions. And I, also, continued on this journey. We are becoming part of a big puzzle. Together. I wanted to write about my takeaways right after the conference, as I usually would do. But the moment wasn't right. I was distracted and tempted trying to answer some burning questions in me, and often triggered and challenged by factors I could not control. A much needed and extended pause. I'm happy I waited till now. The time is right now to share. Here is what I learned from the conference, and looking back now, what it gave me to prepare for these special times and everything ahead. |
