I had this vision... to bring together a group of like-minded people... with a common interest around building a Social Media presence for their business, around visibility, and who are willing to explore topics way beyond... So they can make more impact, a true impact on the world and on our communities, as leaders. To bring together people,
This year, I felt this was more relevant than ever... I knew there was something magical out there waiting for us... But it was currently missing in my business landscape of Social. It turned out, not only in my world... So, I decided to create it. Happily, I found the right people to join me on the ride. This is what happened... Join us as we explore! :) Maybe you will be part of it, too? This is just the beginning! Share, reflect, inspire, grow. In a space where intellect and emotions connect. The topic: How emotional fluency impacts your business? This post comes from my heart. It's a longer post. You might like to take time to read and allow yourself to resonate somehow, somewhere. We start from Social Media, and we move way beyond. Our interest to build a strong Social Media presence for our business takes us to another level. Where our presence with each other, and ourselves connects. Because, I believe, once we are connected, on a deeper level, we can make true impact. Connection comes through emotions. It led me to fulfilledness. Why this, why now? My back story The whole idea to bring this direction to life was born from my own personal explorations, and acknowledging how developing my own Social Media consulting & coaching business is helping me on my own journey of personal growth. Interestingly for me, the work I do on and around Social Media offers a very honest self-reflection. It helps me become not only a better business woman, a better consultant, a better coach, but a better partner, a better parent, a better me, too. I like to face myself in that mirror. It's raw, it's often very challenging. It is real. I wasn't able to be so honest and so real with myself before. Especially in my previous career as a diplomat. Oh, it fitted me so much, or I fitted it? I was really good at representing something or someone, and doing it all the time. It was my role, it was never about me, and I somehow got lost along the way. It was painful and heartbreaking when I realised it. It set me off on a real journey, along with another. A story for another day maybe... Over the years that followed, I started exploring what does it mean for me to be really honest. Mostly, with myself. I slowly started to allow myself to feel. Feel more. Acknowledge and process my emotions. Not just the "good ones". It's beautiful, and I find it now very fulfilling. I can now feel, and connect on a different level. It's a constant, ongoing learning. Looking in my own eyes, and the selfie modes and videos I made along the years, definitely helped. There is no escape :) Having and finding the people around me who walk on a similar path, who inspire me every day, helps, too. The language of emotions As I did the work and started to become more aware of what's happening in me and around me, I started noticing that talking about emotions is often missing in our lives. We simply don't have the language. I had to learn it myself as an adult. I learned it first in English. And then, I had to re-learn it on my mother tongue, Hungarian, too! It was crazy. It was shocking. I realised I simply couldn't match the words that would accompany my feelings in my very own language... How is this even possible? Well, I never learned... Emotions are not something they teach at school - it somehow seems to be missing in many cultures and societies these days. On the contrary, we learn to oppress. Pretend they are not there. Quickly do something else so we don't feel, forget... especially the pain, but often, the joy, too. And at times, we are even rewarded for it. I also noticed throughout my career and working with leaders in different fields, that the higher we get in our roles, especially when it involves a lot of spotlight and visibility, the more isolating and lonely it can become. And somehow, parallel to this, the less our emotions are acknowledged, too. Social Media and emotional fluency. How do the two come together? We talk and do a lot of Social Media these days... It's part of our lives. How easy it makes us connect. From a professional context, how to get our content out there, so we can promote our business, reach more clients, sell more, do more, want more... Many leaders seek visibility. It's a way to get messages across. To make bigger impact. To reach more people who will benefit from those messages. Businesses lead in this field, often. It seems so easy to connect. But are we really connecting? Can we really connect, if we don't know how to talk about, not to mention how to deal with emotions? Ours, and equally, others'? Can we really connect with our customers? Can we really do that, when we, ourselves, are disconnected? Emotions make us genuine and authentic. And that's what attracts people and make it work on a long term. Not just in private relations, but in business, too. People do business with people. Who they like, and trust. And emotions, believe it or not, build trust. This is where we come to a full circle. To be able to attract the right people so we can realise our vision and make true impact as leaders, we need to be genuine, and appear genuine in all our communications. This includes Social Media, and the way we show up on the social platforms. And in order for us to show up genuinely, we all realise at some stage that it just can't be done without emotions. Sooner, later, now, never?! Emotions really connect. Emotions build real trust. Emotion is key to visibility that is not driven from a place of scarcity and need, but which comes from a place of presence and fulfilledness. This is why I find this topic so exciting, so cutting edge, so empowering, and so powerful. The Team, who were ready to leave their comfort zones So this amazing team showed up. The topic we set off to explore: how does emotional fluency impact your business? They weren’t exactly sure what they signed up for. Some even voiced it. :) Yet, they all came. I imagine they might have been drawn to this event. I wasn't sure on a mind level if I communicated everything clearly, however, I decided to take it as an experiment. But I was 100% sure that my intention and the energy was there. I believed in it. And they just simply got it. I attracted the right people! Some were anxious, what will happen if we address these vulnerable topics, sharing about our business and challenges this year... We discussed topics that we usually don't talk about. Especially in a business context. Many are not easy to even admit, sometimes, for ourselves. We just do more, take on more, rush more, perform more. We appear strong. We do, and don't have time to feel. We can become so good at it that we start cheating ourselves... Well, now, we sat back, and took some time to pause, reflect. The sharing begun. I noticed many of us left our comfort zones. Some of us listened, and we were listened to. There was openness, honesty, intellect, and, emotions. We were genuine, real, I imagine and I feel, with others, and with ourselves. We had excellent tools we could use along the process. It wasn't pure coincidence. Tested and tried by all of us, facilitating the evening. Experiences that connect Many of us realised how similar we are. Like a child, when born, naked, then we grow hair, long hair, short hair, no hair... Conversations which transpired, bringing feelings to the fore... Beautiful words from some of our participants. I feel my heart is full, and I’m grateful we all decided to come, show up, and explore, together. This is just the beginning, and I’m so excited for what’s yet to come! And, what's next? My plan is to make The B!Social - Talks that Connect event a series, an ongoing forum and space for deeper connection, sharing and inspiration where we can come together as business professionals and grow together. I'm planning to integrate much more of the emotional work I've been exploring myself into my Social Media services. I truly believe they compliment each other in such a fantastic way. And I truly believe in the opportunity they give us to grow and step into our full potential. I can't wait for this journey to really begin. Here is to 2021! Here is to Social Media, and beyond. If this topic excites you and is calling you, please get in touch. I would love us to explore together.
